We wish everyone a Happy New Year. We take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of the Philippine Cultural and Civic Center Foundation (PCCCF), especially those who immediately responded to our year end appeal (YEA) letter mailed on Thanksgiving Day by Henry Ravelo, MD: PCCCF Chairman, Belinda Tenorio: YEA Chair, Gem Cubos, Letty Cueto, MD, Zen Edralin, Tom Hey, Ike Pahm and Cream Pepito.
The 2015 Year End Appeal (YEA) has so far raised $9,250 from 61 donors. We are hoping that more donations would come through. Funds raised from the ongoing tax deductible YEA will be used for the maintenance and operations of the Philippine Center Building and to sustain the PCCCF programs and activities held at the Center as follows:
The free clinic is open every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. Since we started in 2000, the number of FMC patients continue to grow. Now a total of 3,300 who had been seen 12,500 times. Free medical services have amounted to $2,533,050 to date including medication and laboratory services which were calculated and added only starting in 2010.
FMC celebrated its 15th year anniversary with a free clinic volunteer appreciation lunch hosted by Dr. Violeta Singson and Linda Ramos last December 19, 2015.
Health Fair: The 3rd PCCCF FMC Health Fair chaired by Mareta Prill, was held last Oct 3, 2015. Services offered were: Free screening for Allergy, Asthma, BMI, Breast Cancer, Cholesterol, Dental, Diabetes, Hypertension, Skin Cancer and Health & Safety Education, Games and entertainment.
Color Run/Walk: Participants enjoyed the fund raising 1K/2K Color Run held before the Health Fair started.
On April 25, 2015, the Munting Tinig Choir performed and were honored with a standing ovation by the convention attendees of The Delta Kappa Gamma Sigma (WI) Teachers State Convention. They also performed and presented a Christmas Pageant at the UPAAW Christmas Party last Dec12, 2015.
Children’s Literacy Program: Children from toddlers to teens took part in games such as forming words using giant scrabble pieces, tumbler games, learned and sang songs, scrambled thru castles and tunnels. For crafts, they had easter eggs and bunnies to paint. New books were read and given away for free. They also went on a field trip to Roden Farms. Kohl’s Wild Theater: Mareta Prill was able to bring the Kohl’s Wild Theater to perform at the Philippine Center Children’s Workshop last November 14, 2015.
Community Outreach Program: The Philippine Center has earned its place and name in the community, so has our responsibility to be more responsive towards the impoverished population. The Philippine Center Community Outreach Programs became possible through grants from the Forest Co. Potawatomi Foundation and from The New Threads of Hope. This year’s projects are
1. Book Distribution- Coordinators: Jojo Ramos, Gerry Ramos, Mareta & Bob Prill New books are distributed and continuously given away for free at the PCCCF library and at Children's workshops and distributed at Literacy Outreach programs at the FAAWIS picnic -Wirth Park, PCCCF Health Fair, Pediatric/Medical Clinics, Gwen Jackson Elementary School, All Nations Bible Church and Greendale K5 class. A new batch of books have just been received.
2. Clothing Distribution- Coordinators: Jojo Ramos, Gerry Ramos, Letty Cueto, MD, Mareta & Bob Prill New clothing were distributed at the PCCCF Free Clinic, Health Fair, Pediatric /Medical Clinic, All Nations Bible Church, Center for Working Families, the American Legion Greendale Post 416 and with the UPAAW Volunteers and the St. John’s Cathedral Food Program Staff to enable the distribution of clothes to the homeless.
Symposium: In partnership with UPAAW , the PCCCF hosted the MacArthur Symposium (w/ VCRT MacArthur Forum) and the Symposium on Dementia for the general public.
